Tarot card case cross stitch patterns for making a bag or holder for your tarot card deck. Includes many magical symbols such as pentagrams, moon phases, tarot suits, the four elements, roses, ravens, doves, and more. This listing is for the counted cross stitch chart patterns that make up the panels of the case ONLY and will NOT include instructions or tutorials on how to construct the finished cross stitches into a tarot card case. This is not a project for beginners to cross stitching or to sewing and construction. The cross stitch patterns use whole, 3/4 stitches, a few 1/4 stitches and lots of blackwork and back stitching. I do NOT recommend using the gold metallic floss shown in the pictures unless you are very skilled, as this was extremely slipery and difficult to work with! This project was stitched on 28 count linen (equivalent to 14ct aida) and resulted in the following sized panels, the PDF charts of which you will receive in this purchase:
2 Front and back large panels, (Tarot card plus ravens with tiger lily designs): 40 x 68 stitches, approximately 2 5/8" x 4 1/4 inches each
2 Long side panels, (Moon phases plus tarot suits with goats designs): 40 x 68 stitches, approximately 4 1/4 x 1 1/4" inches each
2 Short side panels, (Compass with bats plus elemental symbols): 40 x 20 stitches, approximately 1 1/4 x 2 5/8" inches each
Charts are represented in colors over symbols and will include suggested DMC floss colors
My finished case fits my 4 3/4" x 2 3/4" x 1 1/8" tall tarot deck. It is a very tight fit, especially after adding a silk lining and I was unable to enclose the deck completely as I had originally planned. I struggled a lot with the sewing and construction part of this case and that is why I am not including a tutorial to make it. My main advice to make a tarot card case would be to start with a fabric outer case design, with the intent to make it at least 1/4" larger than the deck when sewn. Before sewing it together, cross stitch each panel onto a separate piece of linen and then stitch the individual linen panels onto the case in the proper locations. Then add your lining to the back side using fusible interfacing perhaps? Maybe stitch the whole thing together last? I would absolutely love to see your creation and hear about how you constructed it!
