For figuring out what hoop size to use based on the preferred count of your stitching fabric:
A 4" hoop has approximately 3.75" of workable surface area as measured from inside the inner hoop. 22 ct fabric has 22 stitches per inch, so 3.75 x 22 = 82.5 workable stitches for a 4" inch hoop.
If you want to use 14 count fabric, then multipy the number of stitches in your design x 14. The result is the approximate inches of work surface you will need. Always round up to a larger size hoop if the result is equal or greater than the measurement of the inner ring of your embroidery hoop!
